Having a blast at pirate recording another commercial.
I know I said I’d start posting again soon, and I know I said fewer serious posts, and I just might be back to that point. We’ll see.
I’m REALLY sorry I haven’t been responding to messages or posting at all.
After my last post I received some lovely messages… however I received some pretty egregious messages as well, including a few threatening my physical well being.
I have to tell you, this has been really hard to shake off.
A few of my upcoming appearances have been cancelled and I’ve been sticking to minimal internet activity for the last little bit.
I have still been recording and I’ve started working on a few new projects as well as reworking some old ones, there will be updates to everything eventually.
Again I truly apologize to all of you who have messaged me, or have wanted me around, and I’ve been unavailable.
I’m going to try to start combing through my different inboxes again starting after this posting, but the last two times I did that I was greeted with a slew of those awful messages.
We’ll see how this attempt goes.
Anyhow, lots of love to all of you.
I know I haven’t been posting for the last little bit, and I’m sorry for that.
Lots has been happening and I’ve kind of been all over the map.
I would like to post about something pretty heavy and I’m sorry the serious posts are a little close together.
As a children’s entertainer I want to avoid these topics… but I can’t… so if you don’t want to read something serious please skip this post. If you ARE going to read it… read it to the end before forming any opinion.
This past weekend I attended ConBravo. Interesting little convention and I’ll be happy to be invited again next year.
Saturday though… Saturday I had an experience that… really… upset me.
I’m walking down the streets of Hamilton at a fun “geek convention” just taking a short breather. Suddenly behind me I hear chanting. “Shame on Harper! Down with Israel! Free Palestine! Death to Israel!”
What? WHAT!? This is what I’m hearing in my peaceful country of Canada?
If you’ve never seen me at a convention or seen some of my pictures… I wear a motorcycle jacket. This jacket bears my father’s name on it. The front of the jacket reads “PETER” and the back “ISRAEL”.
My name, if you can’t tell by my display name, is “Benjamin Israel”.
Well, I’m wearing my jacket in Hamilton, while walking the streets. The crowd gets closer and closer and louder and louder, the chants more and more piercing. Tears beginning to form in my eyes as I walk the streets of my “free land”. Until a police officer approaches me and says, “Hey buddy, the back of your jacket?” “Yes sir, it’s my name, I wear it with pride.” “Yeah, great, get inside before someone here attacks you.” (Not verbatim, and I did express concern to a different officer, who also sent me inside.)
That actually stopped me in my tracks before I agreed and walked into a restaurant (which is where I was heading anyhow).
This is considered a peaceful protest? This is allowed?
I am sorry, I agree with freedom of speech. I agree with ANY peaceful display.
It is NOT peaceful to be chanting for the death of a nation and a people.
It is NOT peaceful for a person to be told to get off the street because of a jacket with the name of a country on it.
I don’t care what your opinion is about the situation currently in Gaza. I don’t care how “informed” you are or what “misinformation” you’ve gathered.
If you can’t see how damaging this is to the human species, I don’t want to speak to you.
ANYWHERE where you are not free to just be yourself, as long as “yourself” doesn’t include hurting others, is not a place worth being.
My opinion on Israel is not up for public debate.
I don’t want to spew facts at you. Explain why Israel is more or less okay or not okay in how they’re dealing with this. I’m not going to discuss human shields, warning bombs, pamphlets, tunnels, media coverage, or anything of the sort.
I may one day, but that day isn’t today.
What I AM going to say, is that I am disgusted. I am disgusted that walking down the streets in Canada I am NOT safe because of my last name. Because in 2014 people would see me dead without knowing who I am as a person. That it has not yet been 70 years and the world calls for another Holocaust.
I stand here as an advocate for understanding. I have posted, commented, and messaged you all about bullies, gender, preferences, and generally being human. I have opened my arms taken all of you in with a great big loving hug. Promising that as long as I am around SOMEONE is on your side.
And right now… right now I need a hug. Right now in this world, I am hated. Why? Because I’m a Jew. Because I might lose followers and friends for this post. Because my message doesn’t matter because… of a million reasons.
If you hate me without knowing me. If you read this posting and see anything other than a human being who is hurt by the call to arms against him and his people. If you think what’s happening anywhere justifies that blind hatred.
Shame on you.
I promise more positive and uplifting posts will come around… but right now… I need a break.
Lots of love through pained feelings,
It’s been WAY too long since I’ve made a proper post, and I’m sorry, a million times sorry.
I’ve been running around like a chicken with no head for the last little while, and it seems like it is NOT slowing down anytime soon. HOWEVER, I decided to post this morning and respond to personal messages instead of doing my regular morning work.
I just wanted to remind you all that you’re amazing! You have the power to be and do anything you want, and don’t let ANYONE hold you down.
Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes and presents, they were very much appreciated!
Also, I was watching an episode of Julius Jr a few days ago and I saw this…
Worry Bear says, “AIM FOR NUMBER ONE!” I thought you guys would enjoy that.
Anyhow, keep aiming for number one! More to come.
Lots of love.
Yesterday I said goodbye to Betty. She was my faithful car for the last 8 years. The first picture is the day I bought her, the second a few weeks ago when I hit 150K, the third is my last moments with her as my baby, the fourth is welcoming my new car into our lives.
I introduce you all to “Lizzy” the Nissan Leaf. The name is not 100% yet (Betty’s original name was Lucille… sometimes cars just name themselves.)
She is 100% electric, no more gas for this guy.
Thanks for getting this on “tape”.
Recording pretty late today. Last recording session before Anime North.
Come visit me at the convention!!
mactheactor and I will be there and we might Beyblade battle again.
brianfroud will be there too, maybe even a battle for the ages!?
